Hello March! It's a month of momentum and meaning. We’re pausing to cheer recent student achievements across the district and to spotlight the spring events and projects ahead. Come see what’s next.

Seniors at Apache Junction High School had the opportunity to learn more about life after graduation during a campus visit from Tayle Brink of Central Arizona College.
Her presentation covered key differences between high school and college, including academic expectations, campus resources, and the support networks available to help students succeed.
Thank you to Tayle for equipping our seniors with valuable insight as they prepare for their next chapter.

Students in Mrs. Carney’s class at the Early Learning Center enjoyed a special Valentine’s visit from Tina Gerrola of Superstition Fire & Medical. Mrs. Gerrola read Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine and shared the meaning behind Valentine’s Day, turning storytime into a fun and meaningful learning moment.
Our students loved diving into the world of Amelia Bedelia while connecting with a real-life community hero. Thank you to Tina for supporting early literacy and helping spark a lifelong love of reading.

At Peralta Trail, Mrs. Lavenduskey’s first graders played a phonics scramble where small groups worked together to unscramble compound words and sentences.
They practiced proper sentence structure, flexed their critical thinking, and collaborated to figure out how the pieces fit, learning while having so much fun!
|
Sixth graders at Cactus Canyon Junior High wrapped up their Ancient Greece unit by diving into the Greek alphabet.
As a culminating activity, students translated their own names into Greek, combining history, language, and a little creativity to reinforce what they learned.
It was an engaging way to close the unit and bring classical studies to life in a personal, memorable way.
|
At The Classical Academy at Superstition Mountain, Mrs. Johnson’s first graders brought the water cycle to life with a hands-on experiment.
Students created their own enclosed water cycles using Ziploc bags. They drew each stage, added water, and hung them on the classroom windows.
Over the next week, they observed evaporation and condensation in real time, reinforcing their understanding through direct observation. It’s science made visible, and memorable!
|
Fifth graders in Mr. Smith’s class at Desert Vista Elementary focused on mastering one of math’s trickier concepts: multiplying fractions!
Working in small groups and using their Chromebooks for guided practice, students reinforced their skills through repetition and collaboration.
The goal was simple: build confidence, strengthen accuracy, and truly lock in the learning.
|
Students in grades 3–5 at Four Peaks Elementary put their skills to the test during this year’s Math Bee.
Paired head-to-head, competitors raced to solve problems as quickly and accurately as possible. Each correct answer meant moving forward, and the first student to reach six points claimed victory.
Congratulations to our winners, and to every student who stepped up to the challenge!

The Performing Arts Department at Apache Junction High School made history last month with the first-ever Arizona performance of Always Something There. Students brought the production to life with energy, professionalism, and impressive stage presence, delivering a show that felt far bigger than a high school musical.
From rehearsals to opening night, the cast and crew demonstrated the dedication and collaboration that define a strong performing arts program. This milestone performance not only showcased student talent, but also placed AJHS firmly on the map for innovative and ambitious productions.
Congratulations to the entire department on an unforgettable run.

AJUSD proudly hosted the inaugural HeART of AJUSD District Art Show on February 12th, bringing together students, families, staff, and community partners for a vibrant celebration of the arts.
The evening featured inspiring student artwork from across the district, interactive learning experiences with local partners, and hands-on crafts for all ages. Families enjoyed delicious offerings from local food trucks while exploring the incredible creativity on display. Most importantly, the event showcased the talent of our students and the strong sense of community that defines AJUSD.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to support our young artists and help make the night such a meaningful success.

Our schools are currently seeking dedicated substitute teachers to support our classrooms throughout the year. Substitutes play a critical role in maintaining continuity of learning and ensuring students feel supported, even when their regular teacher is away.
Whether you’re exploring education, recently retired, or looking for purposeful part-time work, this is a rewarding way to serve our community.
|
AJUSD is hiring a Performing Arts Center Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of our district’s performance venue. This role supports school events, community use, rehearsals, and performances while ensuring the facility runs smoothly and professionally.
The coordinator works closely with staff, students, and outside groups to manage scheduling, setup, and logistics, playing a key role in supporting the arts across AJUSD.

What if your tax dollars could stay right here, supporting the students you see at games, performances, and competitions?
An Arizona Public School Tax Credit donation allows you to direct your state tax liability to extracurricular programs in AJUSD, including athletics, arts, clubs, and career pathways. It’s not an additional tax, it’s a dollar-for-dollar credit on what you already owe the state.
Instead of sending those funds elsewhere, you can invest them directly in Apache Junction students.
The deadline to claim this credit on your 2025 taxes is April 15. Don’t miss the opportunity to make a meaningful local impact.

Apache Junction High School is opening bids for a premier scoreboard advertising placement at our football field. The back panel—highly visible from Southern Avenue—offers year-round exposure to thousands of daily motorists, plus consistent visibility at athletic events and school activities. This exclusive one-year placement is more than advertising; it’s a partnership that directly supports AJHS student-athletes and extracurricular programs.
Businesses interested in securing this high-impact community presence can submit proposals to advertising@goaj.org by May 1, 2026, to . Minimum bid is $5,000.

More Than Luck: Growing Success This Spring
March has arrived, bringing spring blooms, a little extra green, and plenty of talk about the “luck of the Irish.” If only school success worked that way.
If luck ran our district, we’d hand out four-leaf clovers at the door and call it a day. But as the saying goes, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” In AJUSD, our students don’t rely on luck. They rely on practice, persistence, and the steady support of their community.
What looks like a “lucky break” at a performance, on the field, or in the classroom is actually the result of hours of preparation.
The strong test score? Preparation.
The confident presentation? Preparation.
The game-winning shot? You guessed it... preparation.
That’s the real magic.
This March, as we head into the final stretch of the school year, let’s keep doing what works:
Cheer on the effort, not just the outcome. Encourage students when the work feels challenging. Stay engaged in the journey, because growth is rarely accidental.
Spring reminds us that growth is happening even when we can’t see it yet. Seeds planted months ago are beginning to bloom, in academics, athletics, the arts, and leadership across our district.
In AJUSD, we don’t leave success to chance. We build it, together, one prepared, persistent step at a time.
Dr. Robert Pappalardo
Superintendent, AJUSD
