Student Walkout
Setting the Record Straight: Student Walkout
Apache Junction Unified School District is aware of questions and misinformation circulating regarding a student walkout that occurred during the school day.
To clarify the facts:
The school district did not organize, support, or supervise the walkout. We did not endorse the purpose or timing of the event.
Prior to the walkout, we notified families that students leaving campus during the school day would receive an unexcused absence under our standard attendance policies.
Our schools maintain closed campuses. Students who left campus did so on their own and were subject to our established attendance and campus safety procedures.
Students who missed instructional time will address it through our regular policies for handling absences.
No school employees participated in or accompanied students during the walkout while on duty.
We are a nonpartisan public school district. We do not take political positions or use instructional time to promote political viewpoints. At the same time, students retain their constitutional rights to express their views outside of school authority, provided this does not disrupt school operations or compromise safety.
Acknowledging that an event occurred does not constitute endorsement. Our responsibility is to ensure student safety, follow established policies, and communicate accurate information to families and the community.
We remain committed to transparency, consistent enforcement of policies, and maintaining our focus on student learning and well-being.
