EVIT Negotiations Update

As the school year gets underway, we want to provide our families with an update on the ongoing discussions between AJUSD, the other eight EVIT member districts, and EVIT regarding the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA).
Conversations are continuing, and the member districts remain committed to working toward a fair, comprehensive agreement that puts students first. Recent discussions have been productive, and we are hopeful that a resolution can be reached.
We understand that many families have seen information shared on social media or received communications directly from EVIT. We also recognize that this situation has created questions and uncertainty. While transportation has received the most public attention, it is only one component of a much larger agreement that also addresses funding, operational responsibilities, and the long-term sustainability of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across all nine member districts.
AJUSD has always supported students' and families' ability to choose EVIT when they are eligible, and that commitment has not changed.
Recently, EVIT indicated it intends to provide transportation through a third-party transportation provider. As with any transportation service operating on district property, AJUSD has a responsibility to ensure appropriate safety, security, and operational protocols are in place before students are transported from our campuses. This includes reviewing items such as student supervision, vehicle identification, driver protocols, campus access procedures, liability, and other important operational considerations.
The member districts have proposed an agreement that addresses these student safety, campus security, and liability matters, and we remain hopeful they can be resolved collaboratively and promptly.
We know this uncertainty has been difficult for our CTE students and their families. AJUSD remains committed to keeping our community informed throughout this process and will continue to share updates as new information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work toward a resolution that serves the best interests of students.
