Meet the Superintendent

Welcome to the Apache Junction Unified School District. The district is located in the foothills of the majestic Superstition Mountains, internationally revered for its beauty, and its reputation for hidden treasures. However, I believe the most valuable asset in the district is not silver, gold, or hidden Ted DeGrazia paintings, but the lives and education of the approximately 3,600 students who reside here.

As the newly-hired superintendent, my vision is to lead AJUSD as a district that believes wholeheartedly in children and their learning. This involves the implementation of a rigorous and relevant curriculum, social and emotional supports, and innovative programming to meet the diverse student population. To ensure this vision is realized, I have outlined key guidelines that include:

     · A focus on children and their learning

    ·  A strong push towards strengthening our instructional leadership

    ·  Emphasizing the importance of aligning our tangible and intangible assets

    ·  Ensuring our time money and resources are aligned with the district's mission

    ·  A commitment to excellence

This is not an easy task. A collaborative approach to leadership is essential to bring about positive change and results. This cooperative strategy makes it is easier to teach, to learn, and to positively impact the lives of our students.

This does not happen in a vacuum. The responsibility of supporting our students extends beyond the district, governing board, and parents. AJUSD needs the support of the community. To help make this happen I strongly encourage community action and volunteerism. This is even more critical in our district, where limited financial resources continue to be an issue.

AJUSD will carry on its efforts to find creative and responsible ways to be fiscally accountable, while maintaining transparency to our internal and external customers. This goes beyond doing more with less; it means maintaining high standards of fiscal responsibility. I am happy to report AJUSD recently received a clean audit of the district’s financial documents and procedures from Dennis Osuch of CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP.

However, preparing our children for the future involves commitment. The goal should go beyond providing an adequate education, to a focus on providing a quality education that will help shape and define our students for the rest of their lives.

Everyone who lives or works within the AJUSD boundaries has a stake in the future. I truly believe in the words of Nelson Mandela who said:

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I am committed to providing AJUSD with leadership that inspires and motivates staff, students, parents, and community members to know they are valued, respected, and appreciated for their contribution to the overall growth of the district. I welcome your positive comments and suggestions on how to help make AJUSD a gold mine of opportunities for our youth, our community, and our collective futures.

    Dr. Krista Anderson
