Mr. Young

Hello Parents and Families,

Welcome back to school! I will be your child's 2nd grade teacher for the up and coming 2019-20 school year. I am very excited to be teaching here at Peralta Trail Elementary School for the fifth year and my sixth in the district. This will be my twelfth year teaching in elementary. Before teaching second grade for six years I had previously taught all grades 4-8 in some fashion. I am pleased to be a part of this extraordinary and amazing team here at PTES. You can find a wealth of information on our school site

My life journey started in Okinawa, Japan where I was born. Both my mother and father were in the United States Air Force. I lived in Japan until I reached the age of two and moved to England. I lived in England up until, ironically, I was in second grade. I then moved with my family stateside and lived a year here and there in various states across the country before settling in Tucson, Arizona at the age of ten. I lived in Tucson until I graduated high school and moved to Mesa to play football at Mesa Community College, Go Thunderbirds! I started out as an accounting major because of my extreme love for math. I did an internship in my program and realized that I was not going to be able to sit in a cubicle for the rest of my life. I saw my counselor and she gave me an aptitude test. That test said that I was destined to be a teacher.  I took my first teaching class and fell in love with the art. I received an Associates in Education and transferred to Arizona State University. There I received my Bachelor's degree in education, and here I sit doing what I love; teaching kids! I am happily married to my lovely wife who also teaches at Peralta as a kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Young and I are expecting a little girl in the fall. We lived in Tempe and taught in Phoenix, but five years ago we built a house here in Apache Junction.  We are very proud to be teaching in our own community doing what we love!

As far as who I am as a teacher, I use Love and Logic as a classroom management piece as well as Class Dojo. I am very strong in math and science but love language arts. I have an open door policy and am always willing to talk about your child's educational, direction, and needs. Please feel free to contact me about any concerns or questions you may have about activities in the classroom, up and coming events, past events, or basically anything that has to do with your child and their education. I look forward to a fun year filled with lots of learning and memorable moments!
