  • Welcome to Cactus Canyon Junior High School!

My name is Courtney Castelhano and I am the Principal at Cactus Canyon Junior High.  I have been in Apache Junction School District for 21 years and I'm beginning my seventh year as principal at CCJH.  I am honored to be given the opportunity to work closely with a community of families, students and a dedicated team of professional educators.

A little background about myself, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a dual major in education and special education.  I then obtained my Masters in Educational Counseling and later a Principal Certificate.  I have been in education for over 23 years.  I have held the positions of Special Education Teacher, Counselor, and Special Education Coordinator and Director for the school district before given the opportunity to become principal at Cactus Canyon.

I believe parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role in preparing learners to be successful, productive citizens.  Our commitment as a staff is for all students to experience a community where positive relationships prepare them for their greatest academic achievement.

Cactus Canyon fosters a school culture that focuses on rigorous instruction with high expectations, a collaborative community, and innovative learning opportunities to prepare students for today’s world.  To prepare our students to compete in a global society, they need specific skills to think critically, solve problems, and demonstrate learning through rigor, relevance, and relationships.

Cactus Canyon has a proactive school-wide behavior program that focuses on student expectations and positive behavior.  Cougar PRIDE is:

    P - Preparation

    R - Respect

    -  Integrity

    D - Dedication

    E - Effort

Please do not hesitate to contact me. My door is always open to meet with students and parents, and I welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your child. Through your support, we will continue making a significant difference in the lives of our students.

    Sincerely,

    Courtney Castelhano
