Revolutionary War Causes

  • Tea Act -  Passed by Britain, the Tea Act gave the British East India Co an advantage over colonial tea merchants by not charging them import taxes.

    Stamp Act -  The Stamp Act was a tax placed on almost all printed material in the colonies.The purpose of the tax was to help pay for troops stationed in North America, but there were no foreign enemies. 

    Boston Massacre -  The Boston Massacre was the killing of 5 Boston colonists by British Soldiers, who were being harassed by a crowd of Boston residents leading to increased tensions between the Colonists and the British. 

    Intolerable Acts - the American Patriots' name for a series of punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea party.

    Declaration of Independence - The Declaration of Independence is the name of a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the American Colonies regarded themselves as thirteen newly independent states, and no longer a part of the British empire.
