    Topic: Reconstruction

     

    Text: "Peacemaking Problems After the Civil War" a 3 page article

     

    Reading task: Students will read the article in chunks over a few days. They will be reading with the purpose of answering the question, "Were African Americans truly free after emancipation?" While reading, students will highlight/underline sections in the text that can help answer that question. Students will have opportunities to share with their peers (small groups) what they underlined as evidence and why. RH-SS. 6-8.1

     

    Writing task: Students will write a short (2 paragraph) response to the article and its guiding question. They will make a claim (Yes, African Americans were truly free or No, African Americans were not truly free...)  WH-SS.6-8.1a
