WELCOME TO PTES BAND, STRINGS & CHORUS!
Here is the update for all things band and chorus for FALL 2019!
Mouthpiece trials (an opportunity for 5th and new 6th grade students to try out band instruments) will be held at PTES on Tuesday, August 6th. Milano's music store will be setting up shop at Desert Vista Elementary for instrument rentals Wednesday night, August 14th starting at 5:30pm. Band instruction will begin at PTES on Thursday, August 15th.
Please be aware that PTES only has a few instruments avaliable to rent to students. To cover the cost of repairs and instrument maintenance, the cost of using a PTES instrument will be $25 per semester. Otherwise, you will need to secure your own instrument for students to use for band. Milanos music store rents most instruments for $20-$30 per month, and have a very good policy regarding replacements for broken rental instruments and repairs. Please exercise caution when purchasing instruments from Amazon.com. Often these instruments are cheaply made and require repairs that cost more that the instruments purchase price.
PTES Band will meet this year with Mr. Danser during the school day on Thursdays and Fridays from 1:30-2:15. Mrs Leen will meet with string students on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:15.
All band and string instruction is avaliable to 5th and 6th grade students only. Students will be dismissed from class and will go directly to the band room. They will be dismissed to specials classes when rehearsal is over. Here is the current schedule:
Wednesday: Strings - violin, viola & cello
Thursday: Beginning Woodwinds - flute, clarinet, alto sax
Friday: Beginning Brass & Percussion - trumpet, trombone, drums, bells, and assorted percussion instruments
CHORUS will meet before school Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:45-8:25 beginning on Tuesday, September 3rd. Please look for sign up sheets to come home with your child. The cost of this club will be $10 per semester to cover the cost of t-shirt, music and supplies for students. Chorus is open to all students in 2nd-6th grades.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to another successful year working with your band, strings and chorus students!
