What are we reading in group this year? ---
--- In our first, second, and third grade groups we are reading our Power Reader books and the Super Charged Readers. Be looking for those to come home at the end of each week. Have them read the story to you, so that they can show off their improved reading skills! Along with these they will also be bringing home fluency practice sheets. Take a few minutes and enjoy listening to them read these short passages. You will be pleasantly surprised to see that they may only need your help decoding a few words!
Reading at Home ---
Below you will see what we are reading in groups, and get some ideas and thoughts on the importance of reading at home nightly.

Ask your child what has occurred in the story so far!
Lots of reading skills being learned and practiced in our Title One groups. Be looking for our one minute timed fluency sheets to be coming home. This would be another tool that could be used to get some reading done at home. Find a comfy spot, sit with your child and have them read the practiced passage to you. Then ask them questions about the story to check for their understanding of the reading. I believe you will be amazed to see how well they will do! Students are doing a great job meeting their goals on these one minute passages.
--- I can not stress enough how important it is to be reading at home, for at least 30 minutes, nightly. Practicing your reading skills will only help to improve fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. We will be doing our One School One Book (OSOB), again this year. Be looking for information to be coming home regarding our OSOB program at the end of September or early October. Your family will enjoy reading this year's novel. (But SHHHHH!.....The title is a secret for right now!) There is no better way to keep the reading flowing from school to home each night then with our whole schools participation in OSOB. Again, it will be a fun filled adventure novel that will be enjoyed by all.
