WHAT IS
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY?
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY is a system of tools and
strategies, which enables a student to function to his or
her maximum potential educationally, vocationally,
socially, and in their daily living activities. The
term ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY means any item, piece of
equipment, or product system, whether acquired
commercially, off the shelf, modified, or customized,
that is used in increase, maintain, or improve functional
capabilities of students.
- AT shall be available to all students.
- AT increases student opportunities for education,
integration, and social interactions.
- Students who use AT may not necessarily
require special education programs and services.
- As needs change with student growth and
development, AT shall remain appropriate and
relevant for the student.
