BUS SUSPENSION
The student may be suspended for a period of time from one day to one calendar
year for violating bus rules.
SUSPENSIONS
Depending on the severity of the infraction, the age of the students and the
school, a suspension may be on campus or off campus and short or long term.
The list below describes each.
Short on-campus
suspension
The student is informed that he/she is subject toa
short suspension (five days or less).
The student also is informed of the due process procedure.
An attempt is made to
notify the student's parent(s) or legal guardian by
telephone or letter that the student is
subject to a short suspension. Notification to
the parent(s) or legal guardian must
include clear instructions reagarding the due process
procedure, which is initaited
immediately. The suspension does not start until
the due process procedure had been
completed. This is recorded in the Student File.
Long on-campus
suspension
The student is informed that he/she is subject toa
long suspension (six to ten days).
The student is also informed of the due process procedure.
The student's parent(s) or
legal guardian is notified by telephone and letterthat
the sudent is subject to a long
suspension. Notification to the parent(s)
or legal guardian must
include clear instructions reagarding the due process
procedure, which is initaited
immediately. The suspension does not start until
the due process procedure had been
completed. This is recorded in the Student File.
Off-campus
suspension
The student is immediately suspended for a time period
of one to ten days.
Suspensions of this type are made either by a school
with no facilty for on-campus
suspension or when it is necessary to remove the student
from school in order to
eliminate clear and present danger to any or all concerned
or due to continue lack of
cooperation or open defiance. The student's parent(s)
or legal guardian is notified by
telephone and certified letter regarding the action
of the school district.
Notification to the parent(s) or legal guardian
must include clear instructions
regarding the due process procedure, which is
initiated immediately. This is recorded
in the Student File.
Summary
suspension
The student is immediately suspended from school and
the principal initiates the
expulsion proceedings.
NOTE – Students under on-campus,
off-campus or summary suspension are not eligible are not eligible to participate
in school-sponsored activities.
EXPULSION
The student is informed that he/she is subject to expulsion. The student
is also informed of the due process procedure. The student's parent(s)
or legal guardian is notified by telephone and/or letter that the student is
subject to expulsion. Notification to the parent(s) or legal guardian
must include clear instructions regarding the due process procedure. The
School District Superintendent or District Hearing Offficer may recommend to
the Governing Board that the student be expelled. The due process procedure
is immediately initiated. The expulsion does not become effective until
the due process procedure has been completed and the Superintendent's recommendation
has been acted upon by the Board. This is recorded in the Student File.
